He graduated from the Gnesin music institute, he worked in the orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater, and with the Moscow State Philharmonic.Orchestra

The first serious jazz experience is a duet with double bass player Mikhail Karetnikov.

In 1985-1989 he performed in the ensemble of intuitive music “Three O”, together with Sergei Letov and Arkady Kirichenko.

Since 1988 he plays in a duet with the pianist Mikhail Alperin (recorded 4 albums in the German label ECM)

In 1990, the duo Alperin-Shilkloper invites to cooperation with an enthusiast of Russian authentic folklore, Sergei Starostin. So the Moscow Art Trio ensemble appeared, which for a long time was one of the most famous and popular jazz and ethno-jazz bands from Russia.

Since 1992 he has been performing solo programs, recording a lot with different bands.

A. Shilkloper played in the international quartet Pago Libre, in the trio “Mauve”, collaborated with the Vienna Art Orchestra, with WDR BIG BAND, etc.

Constantly works with leading domestic and foreign musicians and collectives, including symphonic, chamber, brass and jazz orchestras. He actively tours around the world, participates in the jury of various competitions, gives master classes.
